Photo Analyst is an AI powered platform that helps photographers find their best photos, gather creative feedback, and build dynamic albums.

Case

The Challenge

Amateur and professional photographers typically spend hours meticulously selecting and removing unwanted photos from a larger set of images. Users need a basic understanding of photography rules to review each image for their quality, composition, and artistic merit to curate a collection of their best work.

Photographers need a tool to speed up the selection process and reduce hours of work to focus on other tasks.

My Role

Lead designer for building concept frameworks and interfaces that would support early AI development. Research was also conducted with diverse photographers to learn about their pain points and needs within their workflow. Technical brainstorming and constraints were also developed with engineers for feasibility.

Design Solutions

Instantly Find Your Best Photos

Import your photos and Photo Analyst will instantly organize your best work for you. The user is in full control of the analysis, given that photography is inherently subjective. Machine learning enables the tool to recognize user preferences and behavior to improve the image analysis. The AI technology is supported by a dataset of photography composition rules and best practices combined with computer vision, deep learning, and neural networks.

The image analysis examines composition used, out of focus, eyes closed, duplicates, subject anomaly, quality of smiles, image exposure, histogram quality, aesthetics, and many more.

Photography Critique

Gather creative feedback through photography critiques based on compositional rules and best practices. Photography critiques are common within institutions and are invaluable because it identifies areas for improvement, understand strengths/weaknesses, and gain an objective perspective.

The feedback is merely a tool and visual guide to help photographers improve their skills. Image overlays provide context on which composition rules were used and how it could be improved.

Build Dynamic Albums

Dynamic albums make it easier to organize and curate a body of work with no limitations. Search results are more accurate and comprehensive where users can identify for visual specific context. The entire album library transcodes, translates, and locates exact image elements to put relevant details in the spotlight.

Photo Curator

AI driven prompts empower photographers to add or depart from the default analysis. Users can automatically curate albums based on image themes, color harmony, patterns, people, location, mood, etc. Preparing a collection for an art show, book release, client work, or portfolio can be done in seconds!

Discovery

Interaction Architecture

Defining the information flow & source data was essential for learning what is possible & building with intentional design. A combination of Computer Vision, Deep Learning,
& Neural Networks is used to analyze photos. The examples below provide an overview of user experience & how data is being supported by AI.

Learnings

The project propelled my understanding of product design for Artificial Intelligence. I learned to improve user experiences by utilizing data to reduce biases and solve specific company problems through AI-driven product enhancement.

Outcomes

Photo Analysis is a personal project for my certification with the course "Intro to AI Product Design with Robert Redmond". Authentic deliverables for information flows and data models were created to craft user-centric designs and identify applications of Deep Learning.
